We are happy to present the Angel Investing Report 2020 in cooperation with the Austrian Angel Investing Association (aaia) and Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws i2 Business Angels) on the 9th March 2021 at 03:00 pm.
Austrian Business Angels are an important player in the funding lifecycle of startups and support talented founders with their expertise, network, and capital. They are the earliest believers and with this report, we want to quantify their impact and dig deeper into the investor personality, investment behavior & portfolio dynamics. 2020 was a particularly interesting year to analyze investment behavior in a crisis and to derive lessons learned. In addition, this report also gives insights for startups in how to approach angel investors, what they are currently looking for and what to expect in 2021.
At the launch of the report, you can expect exciting insights into the Austrian angel investing landscape 2020, an outlook for 2021 and a clear picture of the status quo of private early-stage investments.

Hansi Hansmann – Dr. Johann ‘Hansi’ Hansmann is an Austrian economist. He spent most of his professional career in management positions in the international pharmaceutical industry in Austria, Germany, England, and Spain. After a management buy-out of a large pharmaceutical plant in Spain, he spent several years building up his own pharmaceutical company, which he sold very successfully in 2003. Since that time, he has been an active investor and business angel. In 2012 he co-founded the Austrian Angels Investors Association, of which he serves as active president. He holds investments with a geographical focus on Austria, Germany, England and Spain, mainly in internet companies and the healthcare sector. With more than 40 investments in great startups, he is one of the most active and successful business angels in Europe.
Karin Kreutzer – Active in the startup scene since 2015 – investor, business angel, member of the investor advisory board of Calm/Storm Ventures, columnist, idea generator for the Legal Tech Hub Vienna/Europe. Before/besides this, active for over 25 years with a joyful commitment in communication management. Many years in leading positions in large and medium-sized companies, since 2002 self-employed (until 2017 owner and managing director of the PR agency konzept pr). Master of Advanced Studies (PR), certified business coach, certified advertising consultant, economical training. She is a member of aaia; aws i2Business Angels; gruppe1031 ; Investorinnen.com and pma.
Felix Ohswald – By the age of 14, he had already reached the point where he began attending mathematics courses at the university – initially as an extraordinary student. At 19, he not only graduated from school, but he also completed his mathematics studies at the university with a Bachelor of Science degree. After two semesters at the University of Cambridge, the idea for the start-up GoStudent was born in 2015. At that time, he and his brother started exchanging questions about school material via WhatsApp. Felix had the right answers. A friend of the two said, “I also like having a big brother who sends me solutions to certain problems via WhatsApp!” – and so the foundation stone for GoStudent was laid. The company was founded in January 2016.
Petra Dobrocka – Petra is co-investor and CCO of the e-commerce company byrd. By building a strong fulfillment network with experienced and qualified logistics providers, byrd offers online retailers access to scalable fulfillment services that enable growth and bring online retailers closer to their customers. This helps e-commerce businesses meet and exceed their customers’ shipping expectations, ensuring customer satisfaction. She is specialized in analytics, marketing strategy, sales processes, social media marketing and strategy development.
