Das Wiener Startup refugees{code} relauncht unter Gründer Stefan Steinberger mit Namensänderung als New Austrian Coding School seine Initiative. Nun soll in Kursen Arbeitslosen unabhängig von der Herkunft das Programmieren beigebracht werden.
Refugees{code} wurde 2016 von Stefan Steinberger ins Leben gerufen, mit dem Ziel geflüchtete Personen zu Programmierern zu machen. Und ihnen so eine größere Chance zu geben, einen Job zu finden. Nun hat sich die Initiative (nicht nur) einen neuen Namen verpasst und wurde zur New Austrian Coding School.
“Wir hatten mit refugees{code} einen großartigen Erfolg und konnten vielen Menschen den Berufseinstieg in Österreich ermöglichen. Die Nachfrage ist nach wie vor sehr groß, nicht nur von geflüchteten Menschen. Deshalb erfolgt jetzt die Änderung von refugees{code} auf New Austrian Coding School, um zukünftig noch mehr Menschen eine Ausbildung als Software Developer zu ermöglichen”, sagt Pressesprecher Philipp Emberger im Gespräch mit dem Brutkasten.
New Austrian Coding School: “gegen Schubladendenken”
Schon bisher war es möglich, dass auch arbeitslose Österreicher das neunmonatige Ausbildungsprogramm in Anspruch nehmen. “Wir wollen jedoch in Zukunft noch stärker diese Zielgruppe ansprechen, um so auch unsere Integrationsbemühungen weiter auszubauen”, so Emberger weiter. Die Umbenennung erfolgte zusätzlich auch aus dem Grund, weil das Coding-Team ein “Schubladendenken” vermeiden möchte und einen integrativen Kurs für alle Menschen auf die Beine stellen will. “Wir glauben, dass Programmieren eine Universalsprache ist, die Integration ermöglicht. Diesen breiten Anspruch wollen wir in Zukunft durch den Namen widerspiegeln und uns nicht auf eine Zielgruppe beschränken, da wir ein Ausbildungskurs für alle arbeitslosen Menschen sind, unabhängig von der Herkunft. Diese Mischung macht es für uns aus”, sagt Emberger.
Über 90 Prozent der Coder bereits mit Job
Bisher war die Arbeit der Initiative sehr erfolgreich, wie auch Founder Stefan Steinberger betont: “Im Oktober 2017 haben wir begonnen, 21 Menschen zu Software Entwicklern auszubilden. Uns freut es, dass wir so vielen unserer Teilnehmer einen Neustart in Österreich ermöglichen konnten. Über 90 Prozent haben bereits eine Arbeit gefunden.”, sagt er. Und Emberger ergänzt: “Unsere Coder arbeiten beispielsweise beim Bundesrechenzentrum, bei Rewe, Paysafecard, Erste Group, Kapsch, Drei, Tiani, openForce, shpock und Techsoft. In Zukunft möchten wir dieses Portfolio gerne ausbauen und sind mit einigen Unternehmen bereits im Gespräch”.
Der neue Kurs startet im Oktober 2018. Die New Austria Coding School rechnet dabei mit 20 bis 30 Teilnehmern. Am 23. August findet in der TU, Gußhausstraße 25-29, ein Info-Day statt. Zu bezahlen sind die Lehrmaterialen (100 Euro), ansonsten ist der Kurs kostenlos.

As engineers, we tend to communicate in technical language. Through the program, we learned to present our idea clearly and understandably.”

The startup’s solutions are particularly relevant to the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries.
