PART I | GO SHANGHAI ONBOARDING: FLEXIBLE

Get first-hand insights into the chinese market and benefit from a flexible digital onboarding to prepare your internationalization strategy. The selected startups will receive 3h of free and individual IP coaching sessions and exclusive unlimited access to our GIN video masterclasses with valuable expert tips for their market entryAt the kick-off event you will receive first market insights and valuable last-minute preparation tips for your physical presence in Shanghai and Taipei, while getting to know the GO SHANGHAI 2024 startup batch. 

PART II | GO SHANGHAI PHYSICAL: EXPANSION TRAVEL

Part II of GO SHANGHAI 2024 is a 1-week ecosystem tour in Shanghai and Taipei from October 7th to 14thand offers the selected startups 1:1 business meetings organized by AußenwirtschaftsCenter Shanghai, as well as the opportunity to generate international leads (corporates, potential clients, business partners, etc.) at customized pitch and networking events, such as the Austrian Startup Night. Furthermore, startups can benefit from further on-site activities, e.g. Tech G Show (see further information below). For the physical trip to Shanghai & Taipei, GIN covers 80% of the program relevant expenses including flight and accommodation costs up to EUR 10,000.- per startup (with the Gender Bonus even up to 90% of the eligible costs).

INNOVATION MADE IN TAIWAN 

With excellent technological infrastructure and a leading position in the semiconductor industry, the island offers ideal conditions for startups. The government supports the growth of young companies with investments, tax incentives, and an improved regulatory environment. Success stories from companies like HTC, Foxconn, and TSMC inspire the new generation of startups. Taiwan sees significant potential, especially in the fields of health technology and sustainable energy.

REQUIREMENTS

The program GO SHANGHAI 2024 is most suitable for startups meeting the following criteria:

  • Vertical: DeepTech (e.g. robotics, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, augmented/virtual reality, machine learning, biotechnology, blockchain, aerospace technology, quantum computing etc.) 
  • Austrian mid- or later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed stage)
  • Established in the last 7 years (no k.o. criterion)
  • Raised at least seed-stage investment
  • Unique product/solution 
  • Working prototype/MVP
  • A proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

1. Application on aws Connect | until May 5th, 2024

  2. Fill out the online form and upload your recent pitch-deck
  3. Start your application now: click HERE 

2. Online Pitch Event | May 23th, 2024

The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are chosen for the Online Pitch via e-mail. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-in details for the Online Pitch on Mai 23st, 2024 as well as a 10-minute time-slot. Each startup has 3 minutes to pitch in English followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international GIN-partners. 

3. Final Decision – Congratulations! 

After the Online Pitch the jury will select the GO SHANGHAI 2024 finalists. The selected startups for GO SHANGHAI 2024 will receive an e-mail with the next steps from the GIN-Team latest within a week after the Online Pitch.

„Aufbrechen“ hat zwei Bedeutungen: sich auf den Weg machen und etwas aufbrechen, das verkrustet ist. Diese Ausgabe braucht beide Varianten. Denn die Frage, wie Österreich bei industrieller KI, punkto Kapital und hinsichtlich europäischer Regeln vorankommt, lässt sich nicht mit Abwarten beantworten. Wir haben mit Menschen gesprochen, die das verstanden haben, und uns Regionen angesehen, in denen die Umsetzung längst passiert.

Christoph Knogler steht an der Spitze von Keba, dem Linzer Technologieunternehmen für industrielle Automatisierung, und sitzt der KI-Taskforce der Industriellenvereinigung vor. In unserer Coverstory (Seite 22) erklärt er, warum industrielle KI Europas eigentliche Chance ist und wo Österreich aufholen muss. Dass Oberösterreich mehr ist als Industrie, zeigt unser Standort-Check ab Seite 30: von der Tabakfabrik über die JKU bis zu den Exits von Emmi AI und Tractive.

Speedinvest-Chef Oliver Holle wiederum erklärt im Interview (Seite 8), warum sich der größte heimische Frühphasen-Investor gerade umbaut. Und wer glaubt, ein Millionen-Exit sei automatisch ein Erfolg, sollte unseren Deep Dive zur Liquidation Preference lesen (Seite 14): Eine unscheinbare Klausel entscheidet mitunter darüber, ob für Gründer:innen am Ende überhaupt etwas übrig bleibt.

Aufbrechen muss auch Europa: Wie weit die Rechtsform „EU Inc.“ inzwischen ist, analysieren wir ab Seite 46. Antonella Mei-Pochtler und Franz-Stefan Gady diskutieren im Doppelinterview (Seite 50), wie Kapital und Sicherheit über Europas Handlungsfähigkeit entscheiden. Und Estland führt vor, was ein kleines Land erreichen kann, wenn es Digitalisierung konsequent denkt (Seite 54).

Was Unternehmen heute tatsächlich mit KI anfangen, haben wir in der zweiten Staffel unserer Serie „No Hype KI“ mit Expert:innen diskutiert; das Wichtigste daraus ist ab Seite 40 zu lesen. Frank Möbius, fast 30 Jahre bei BMW, erklärt, warum der Transfer neuer Technologien ins Unternehmen das Schwierigste ist (Seite 66).

Im Bereich „Beyond Business“ erklärt Toto Wolff im Interview (Seite 78), warum bei der Fehlersuche niemand die Hand hebt, der Angst hat, gefeuert zu werden, und wie er bei Mercedes deshalb auf eine No-Blame-Kultur setzt. Wir zeigen weiters, wie Reverse Mentoring Hierarchien auf den Kopf stellt (Seite 72), und fragen die Fotografin Antje Wolm, warum Führungskräfte heute lernen müssen, sichtbar zu sein (Seite 82).
