+++ Important information +++ The Global Incubator Network (GIN) is closely monitoring the situation and development regarding COVID-19 and will keep founders up to date about any necessary changes in the program scheduled for September 2020. The Global Incubator Network (GIN) is looking for Austrian later-stage startups from all verticals for our next goAsia program in South Korea. Together with AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA GIN supports founders in their internationalization to the world’s most innovative startups hubs.

goSeoul 2020 is a unique 1-week acceleration program for Austrian startups that wants to cross borders and aim to internationalize to Asia, especially to South Korea. The program allows first insights into the Korean market and connects the startups with relevant stakeholders and experts of the local startup community.

Also, GIN refunds 80% of all expenses including travel and accommodation costs up to max. € 7,000 per startup.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • OPEN to all Verticals
  • Austrian later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed-stage)
  • established in the last 7 years
  • raised at least seed-stage investment
  • unique product/solution & working prototype / MVP
  • a proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)
  • interest in connecting to relevant stakeholders (investors, corporates)
  • looking to develop further internationally with a focus on South Korea/Asia

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, the program scheduled for September might be conducted online. In this case, all selected startups will have valuable workshops and seminars based in Vienna as well as 1:1 online meetings with relevant stakeholders (investors/corporates based in South Korea). Currently GIN is in close contact with its international partners and it will keep founders up to date about any necessary changes in the goSeoul 2020 program.

    The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are selected for the Online Pitch Event via e-mail. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-on details.

    Online Pitch Event

    May 26, 2020 | 9.00 am – 11.00 am (CET)

    The pre-selected startups have 3 minutes to pitch in English online followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international experts. The Online Pitch will take place on the 26th of May 2020 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. (Please block this time in your calendar preliminary!)

  • STEP 4

    Final Decision – Congratulations!

    within a week after the Oline Pitch Event

    After the Online Pitch the jury will select the goSeoul 2020 finalists. The selected startups for goSeoul 2020 will receive an e-mail with next steps from the GIN-Team latest by the end of May!

Neue Medikamente entwickeln, reinere Kristalle züchten, Materialien testen: In der Schwerelosigkeit verhält sich Materie anders als auf der Erde. Für Pharma- und Materialforschung führt der Weg ins All bisher fast immer über die Internationale Raumstation ISS, die nach aktuellen Plänen Ende 2030 außer Betrieb gehen soll. Nun wollen das Wiener Weltraum-Unternehmen Tumbleweed und der französische Raketenbauer Sirius Space Services einen weiteren Zugang schaffen.

Pods als Zugang zur Schwerelosigkeit

Das Wiener Startup setzt auf standardisierte „Pods“, mit denen Kund:innen Experimente im All durchführen können. Der Zugang zur Schwerelosigkeit sei dadurch laut Tumbleweed zehnmal günstiger und fünfmal schneller als auf dem herkömmlichen Weg. Dafür haben beide Unternehmen eine Absichtserklärung (Memorandum of Understanding) unterzeichnet. Ziel ist es zu prüfen, ob die Forschungsbehälter der Wiener auf den Raketen der Franzosen ins All transportiert werden können.

Der erste Schritt: Suborbitale Testflüge

Den Auftakt der Zusammenarbeit soll der erste Testflug des französischen Unternehmens, „Sirius S1B Ballistic“ (S1B), markieren. Er soll laut Tumbleweed zentrale Raketentechnologien erproben und dabei Schwerelosigkeit bieten. Deshalb wäre die Mitnahme von Forschungsexperimenten möglich. Die beiden Unternehmen prüfen aktuell die technischen Schnittstellen und Betriebsbedingungen.

Einen konkreten Flugtermin nennen die Unternehmen nicht. Auf Nachfrage verrät man gegenüber brutkasten, dass der Testflug S1B, auf dem die Pods mitfliegen könnten, innerhalb der nächsten zwei Jahre stattfinden solle.

Langfristige Pläne: Der Weg in den Orbit

Langfristig zielt die Partnerschaft auf orbitale Missionen ab. Sobald das 2020 gegründete Unternehmen Sirius seine wiederverwendbaren Trägerraketen Sirius-1, Sirius-13 und Sirius-15 in Betrieb nimmt, soll evaluiert werden, wie die Tumbleweed-Pods damit in die Erdumlaufbahn gelangen können. Die Raketenfamilie soll laut Unternehmen Satelliten mit bis zu 1.100 Kilogramm in eine sonnensynchrone Umlaufbahn in 600 Kilometern Höhe bringen.

Einen konkreten Flugtermin nennen die Unternehmen nicht. Laut Medienberichten plant Sirius den Testflug S1B für 2027. Antoine Fourcade, CEO von Sirius Space Services, betont das Ziel, aus der ersten Gelegenheit auf der S1B konkrete Missionen zu machen und „die Grundlagen für künftige Startdienste auf unseren Orbital-Raketen“ zu legen.

Erfolgreiche erste Mission

Während die Kompatibilitätsprüfungen für den ersten Flug laufen, arbeitet das Team von Tumbleweed, das mittlerweile über 20 Mitarbeitende an den Standorten Wien und Delft umfasst, parallel bereits an „Oasis Beta“. Dies soll der rückkehrfähige Nachfolger der im Juli 2026 gestarteten Mission „Oasis Alpha“ werden, die vier Kundennutzlasten an Bord der SpaceX-Falcon-9-Rakete ins All brachte – brutkasten berichtete.
