Call: GO HONG KONG 2023 is now open until June 11th

The Global Incubator Network Austria (GIN), in cooperation with AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA, is looking for Austrian mid- or later-stage startups that aim to enter Hong Kong with: GO HONGKONG 2023 from November 8th until 17th, 2023. The call is open until June 11th.

PART I | GO HONG KONG ONBOARDING: FLEXIBLE

Get first-hand insights into the Hong Kong market and benefit from a flexible digital onboarding to prepare your internationalization strategy. The selected startups will receive 3h of free and individual IP coaching sessions and exclusive unlimited access to our GIN video masterclasses with valuable expert tips for their market entry. At the kick-off event in Vienna on October 10^th you will receive first market insights and valuable last-minute preparation tips for your physical presence in Hong Kong, while getting to know the GO HONG KONG startup batch.

PART II | GO HONG KONG PHYSICAL: EXPANSION TRAVEL

Part II of GO HONG KONG 2023 is a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hongkong from November 8^th to 17^th, 2023 and offers the selected startups 1:1 business meetings organized by AußenwirtschaftsCenter Hongkong, as well as the opportunity to generate international leads (corporates, potential clients, business partners, etc.) at customized pitch and networking events. In addition, startups can benefit from further on-site activities, e.g. StartmeupHK Festival (see further information below). For the phyiscal trip to Hong Kong with a breakout session to Shenzhen in November 2023, GIN covers 90% of all expenses including flight and accommodation costs up to EUR 20,000.- per startup.

THE MAIN EVENT OF GO HONG KONG 2023

The StartmeupHK Festival is one of the largest startup events in Asia organized by InvestHK. The week-long extravaganza of startup conferences featuring keynotes with renowned speakers, startup village, services marketplaces, job fair and business matching will be open to attendees across the globe. The core event organisers will bring you the latest industry developments in smart city, retail tech, digital lifestyle, global startup trends and insights from the most promising startups, investors and corporates and many more!

REQUIREMENTS

THE PROGRAM GO HONG KONG 2023 IS MOST SUITABLE FOR STARTUPS MEETING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Verticals: Smart City Solutions (AI, PropTech, Transport & Mobility, Energy & Utilities), Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech, AI/Metaverse
Austrian mid- or later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed stage)
Established in the last 7 years (no k.o. criterion)
Raised at least seed-stage investment
Unique product/solution
Working prototype/MVP
A proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)
Interest in connecting to relevant stakeholders (corporates, business partners)
Looking to develop further internationally with a focus on the Greater Bay Area/Asia

Online Pitch Event | June 23, 2023:

The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are chosen for the Online Pitch via e-mail latest on June 19^th, 2023. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-in details for the Online Pitch on the 23^rd of June, 2023 as well as a 10-minute time-slot. Each startup has 3 minutes to pitch in English followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international GIN-partners.

Final Decision – Congratulations!

After the Online Pitch the jury will select the GO HONG KONG 2023 finalists. The selected startups for GO HONG KONG 2023 will receive an e-mail with the next steps from the GIN-Team latest within a week after the Online Pitch.

Das Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) vermeldete vor kurzem, dass es seine Forschung künftig auch über eigene Unternehmensbeteiligungen verwertet – siehe hier. Die im Juli gegründete SCCH Innovations GmbH soll bis 2030 und darüber hinaus rund 30 Unternehmen aufbauen, wie CEO Markus Manz gegenüber brutkasten im September erklärte. Damals war bereits die erste Beteiligung fix: das MLOps-Startup LUML eines SCCH-Mitarbeiters.

SCCH: Tech-Transfer um Weiterbildung erweitern

Nun beteiligt man sich mit zehn Prozent Anteilen an dbrains academy. Mit diesem strategischen Schritt möchte das Forschungszentrum seinen Technologietransfer um Beratung und Weiterbildung erweitern, die dbrains academy erhält indes direkten Zugang zu aktueller KI-Forschung. Das gemeinsame Ziel: Unternehmen sollen KI wirksam im Arbeitsalltag einsetzen. Die Anteile hält die SCCH Innovations GmbH, die Beteiligungsgesellschaft des Forschungszentrums — über die genaue Summe ist nichts bekannt.

Kooperation besteht schon seit 2025

Das SCCH steuert bei dieser Kooperation wissenschaftliche Expertise in Künstlicher Intelligenz, Data Science und Software Science bei. Die dbrains academy begleitet Unternehmen vom KMU bis zum Konzern in Österreich und Deutschland, von der KI-Strategie über den Kompetenzaufbau bis zur Umsetzung konkreter Anwendungen, in Workshops oder mehrmonatigen Begleitungen. Ein E-Learning soll zudem zeit- und ortsunabhängig KI-Kompetenz gemäß dem EU AI Act vermitteln.

„Technologietransfer endet für uns nicht mit der Entwicklung einer Lösung. Er ist dann erfolgreich, wenn neues Wissen in den Unternehmen ankommt und dort tatsächlich genutzt wird. Die dbrains academy bringt das Know-how mit, Unternehmen strategisch zu begleiten und dieses Wissen praxisnah zu vermitteln. Darin ergänzen wir uns ideal“, erklärt Markus Manz, CEO des SCCH.

Kooperation besteht seit 2025

Das Software Competence Center und dbrains academy arbeiten seit 2025 zusammen. Im gemeinsamen Lehrgang „AI Excellence Program for Pioneers“ bringen sie Forschung und Unternehmenspraxis zusammen, damit Teilnehmende eigene KI-Ideen bis zur Umsetzung führen. Nach dem ersten Durchgang, dem am 25. November 2026 der nächste folgt, entschied man sich für die Beteiligung.

Für das SCCH erreichen Forschungsergebnisse damit nicht mehr nur einzelne Projektpartner, sondern ganze Belegschaften. Zugleich fließen Fragestellungen aus der Praxis in die Forschung zurück. Die dbrains academy bringt neue Erkenntnisse früher in Strategieprojekte und Trainings ein und entwickelt KI-Lösungen gemeinsam mit dem SCCH. Kund:innen erhalten Strategie, Weiterbildung und Umsetzung auf dem aktuellen Stand der Forschung aus einer Hand. Die Geschäftsführung der dbrains academy bleibt unverändert.
