Call: GO HONG KONG 2023 is now open until June 11th

The Global Incubator Network Austria (GIN), in cooperation with AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA, is looking for Austrian mid- or later-stage startups that aim to enter Hong Kong with: GO HONGKONG 2023 from November 8th until 17th, 2023. The call is open until June 11th.

GO HONG KONG 2023 is the ideal preparation for Austrian startups focusing on smart city solutions, Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech or AI/Metaverse to take the next steps of their Hong Kong-expansion. The program supports startups strategically (flexible onboarding, IP coaching, workshops, networking, 1:1 business meetings, etc.) and financially (travel grant of up to 20,000 EUR) to give them the best expierence during a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hong Kong including a breakout session to Shenzhen from November 8th to 17th, 2023.

This Year, the GO HONG KONG program takes place during StartmeupHK Festival – one of the largest startup events in Asia where startups, investors, industry leaders, tech enthusiasts and government officials can exchange ideas, make connections and chart a course for the future.

PART I | GO HONG KONG ONBOARDING: FLEXIBLE

Get first-hand insights into the Hong Kong market and benefit from a flexible digital onboarding to prepare your internationalization strategy. The selected startups will receive 3h of free and individual IP coaching sessions and exclusive unlimited access to our GIN video masterclasses with valuable expert tips for their market entry. At the kick-off event in Vienna on October 10th you will receive first market insights and valuable last-minute preparation tips for your physical presence in Hong Kong, while getting to know the GO HONG KONG startup batch. 

PART II | GO HONG KONG PHYSICAL: EXPANSION TRAVEL

Part II of GO HONG KONG 2023 is a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hongkong from November 8th to 17th, 2023 and offers the selected startups 1:1 business meetings organized by AußenwirtschaftsCenter Hongkong, as well as the opportunity to generate international leads (corporates, potential clients, business partners, etc.) at customized pitch and networking events. In addition, startups can benefit from further on-site activities, e.g. StartmeupHK Festival (see further information below). For the phyiscal trip to Hong Kong with a breakout session to Shenzhen in November 2023, GIN covers 90% of all expenses including flight and accommodation costs up to EUR 20,000.- per startup. 

THE MAIN EVENT OF GO HONG KONG 2023

The StartmeupHK Festival is one of the largest startup events in Asia organized by InvestHK. The week-long extravaganza of startup conferences featuring keynotes with renowned speakers, startup village, services marketplaces, job fair and business matching will be open to attendees across the globe. The core event organisers will bring you the latest industry developments in smart city, retail tech, digital lifestyle, global startup trends and insights from the most promising startups, investors and corporates and many more!

REQUIREMENTS

THE PROGRAM GO HONG KONG 2023 IS MOST SUITABLE FOR STARTUPS MEETING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  • Verticals: Smart City Solutions (AI, PropTech, Transport & Mobility, Energy & Utilities), Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech, AI/Metaverse
  • Austrian mid- or later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed stage)
  • Established in the last 7 years (no k.o. criterion)
  • Raised at least seed-stage investment
  • Unique product/solution 
  • Working prototype/MVP
  • A proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)
  • Interest in connecting to relevant stakeholders (corporates, business partners)
  • Looking to develop further internationally with a focus on the Greater Bay Area/Asia

Online Pitch Event | June 23, 2023:

The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are chosen for the Online Pitch via e-mail latest on June 19th, 2023. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-in details for the Online Pitch on the 23rd of June, 2023 as well as a 10-minute time-slot. Each startup has 3 minutes to pitch in English followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international GIN-partners. 

Final Decision – Congratulations! 

After the Online Pitch the jury will select the GO HONG KONG 2023 finalists. The selected startups for GO HONG KONG 2023 will receive an e-mail with the next steps from the GIN-Team latest within a week after the Online Pitch.

Mit rund 55 Millionen Euro Schulden war die Insolvenz des von Katharina Schneider aufgebauten Unternehmens MediaShop im Februar eine der aufsehenerregenderen in diesem Jahr. Zunächst war die Zukunft der Marke ungewiss. Mit dem Unternehmer Christoph Bauer mit One Spot fand sich ein Käufer, der die Marke seit Anfang Juni weiterführte und neu aufstellte. Im Zuge dessen wird nun auch die Logistik am deutschen Markt umgestellt. Dieser ist mit rund der Hälfte der Gesamtumsätze der wichtigste Einzelmarkt des Unternehmens. In den drei Monaten nach dem Neustart Anfang Juni wurden dort nach Unternehmensangaben mit rund 60.000 Bestellungen mehr als vier Millionen Euro Umsatz erzielt.

Neuer Partner im Fulfillment ist das vom österreichischen Gründer-Duo Christoph Glatzl und Georg Weiß geführte Scaleup Quivo, das stark auf Automatisierung setzt. Dieses war 2022 aus der Fusion des Wiener Startup Logsta mit der deutschen Ancla hervorgegangen und hat seinen formellen Hauptsitz in Deutschland, seinen operativen Sitz aber in Wien. Vor etwa einem Jahr machte es mit einer großen Finanzierungsrunde auf sich aufmerksam, wie brutkasten berichtete.

Logistische Herausforderungen durch kurzfristige Peaks

Mit der Logistik-Umstellung von MediaShop in Deutschland werden nun rund 10.000 Paletten Ware vom bisherigen Zentrallager in Augsburg nach Frankfurt verlagert. Das ist aber nur die erste von vielen zu erwartenden logistischen Herausforderungen, will das Teleshopping-Unternehmen seine Präsenz am deutschen Markt doch noch stärker ausbauen. So steigerte man die TV-Einschaltungen in Deutschland seit dem Neustart von zwischenzeitlich nur drei Sendern auf zwölf. International stieg die Zahl der Sender seit dem Neustart von 16 in zwei Ländern auf 50 in fünf Ländern.

Das Geschäftsmodell von MediaShop stelle enorme Anforderungen an Geschwindigkeit und Flexibilität, sagt Quivo-CEO Weiß: „Bei MediaShop zeigt sich besonders deutlich, dass modernes Fulfillment weit mehr ist als Lagerfläche und Paketversand. Wenn innerhalb kurzer Zeit große Bestellmengen eingehen, müssen Technologie, Prozesse und Personal nahtlos zusammenspielen.“ Die Plattform verbinde unterschiedliche Systeme und automatisiere große Teile der Bestellabwicklung. „Gleichzeitig haben wir die Infrastruktur und die personellen Ressourcen, um auch kurzfristige Nachfragespitzen abzufangen. Genau für solche Wachstumsszenarien haben wir Quivo aufgebaut“, so der Gründer.

„Wir haben MediaShop in sehr kurzer Zeit neu aufgestellt und sind wieder auf Kurs. Dafür brauchen wir eine Logistik, die nicht nur unser heutiges Bestellvolumen zuverlässig bewältigt, sondern auch mit uns wachsen kann“, kommentiert der neue MediaShop-Inhaber und -Chef Christoph Bauer. „Mit Quivo haben wir einen Partner gefunden, der Technologie, operative Erfahrung und die notwendige Skalierbarkeit verbindet. Das ist für uns insbesondere in einem Geschäft entscheidend, in dem Nachfrage sehr kurzfristig entstehen kann.“
