Kurz vor dem nächste Woche anstehenden Börsengang hat Coinbase Geschäftszahlen für das erste Quartal veröffentlicht – und wie angesichts des aktuellen Krypto-Booms zu erwarten war, sind sie äußerst stark ausgefallen. Der Umsatz der US-Kryptobörse lag demnach bei 1,8 Mrd. US-Dollar. Für den Nettogewinn wurde eine Spanne zwischen 730 bis 800 Mio. Dollar angegeben.
Damit hat die US-Kryptobörse schon nach drei Monaten mehr umgesetzt und mehr Gewinn gemacht als im gesamten Jahr 2020. Damals belief sich der Jahresumsatz auf 1,2 Mrd. Dollar. Der Nettogewinn lag 2020 bei 322 Mio. Dollar.
Die Anzahl der aktiven User ist ebenfalls massiv gestiegen. Sie lag im ersten Quartal 2021 bei 6,1 Mio., nachdem sie im vierten Quartal 2020 noch 2,8 Mio. betragen hatte. Die Anzahl aller Accounts bei Coinbase, also auch der inaktiven, stieg von 43 auf 56 Mio.
Handelsvolumen von 2020 ebenfalls nach drei Monaten bereits übertroffen
Das Handelsvolumen, das im ersten Quartal auf Coinbase abgewickelt wurde, belief sich 335 Mrd. Dollar – auch hier ist der Wert für das Gesamtjahr 2020 nach drei Monaten bereits übertroffen. Im Vorjahr hatte das Handelsvolumen 193 Mrd. Dollar betragen.
Coinbase wird am 14. April an die US-Technologiebörse Nasdaq gehen. Der Börsengang wird, wie schon länger bekannt ist, nicht als klassischer IPO (Initial Public Offering) stattfinden, sondern als „Direct Listing“. Bei einem solchen werden keine neuen Aktien ausgegeben, sondern jene von Bestandsinvestoren auf den Markt geworfen. Für das Unternehmen ist dies kostengünstiger, da es deutlich weniger auf die Dienste von Investmentbanken zurückgreifen muss.
