Statistik: eSports wächst weltweit und in Österreich Rasant
Kürzlich startete Internet-Anbieter UPC die Plattform eSports.at. Dort wurden nun Zahlen zur globalen und österreichischen eSports-Landschaft präsentiert.
In den vergangenen Tagen überschlagen sich in Österreich die Meldungen. Im Frühling wird es mit dem ESF erstmals ein großes eSports Festival in Wien geben, willhaben tritt als erster Groß-Sponsor eines Teams auf und A1 startet eine neue Liga. Auch A1-Konkurrent UPC schläft nicht und hat kürzlich die Plattform eSports.at gelauncht. Man wolle damit die eSports-Community Österreichs vereinen, heißt es vom Internet-Provider. Die anderen Player werden freilich daran arbeiten, möglichst viele Begeisterte auf ihren Plattformen zu versammeln. Eines ist klar: Das große Spiel mit den eSports hat in Österreich nun begonnen.
Anders ist die Lage global. In Südkorea etwa haben eSportler, was die Bezahlung anbelangt, bereits klassische Spitzensportler hinter sich gelassen. Weltweit geht es bei eSports-Turnieren jährlich inzwischen um 82 Millionen Euro Preisgeld. Im Moment wird geprüft, ob es sich als olympische Disziplin eignet. Diese und andere Zahlen, Daten und Fakten brachte UPC nun auf seiner Plattform in Form einer Infografik. So ging es etwa beim Turnier mit dem bisher höchsten Preisgeld, dem Dota 2-Turnier “The International”, um 21,4 Millionen Euro – halb so viel, wie das Preisgeld bei den (Tennis) US-Open. Die Zuschauerzahlen beim League of Legends WM-Finale diesen Jahres lagen mit weltweit 60 Millionen Menschen bereits drei Mal so hoch, wie beim diesjährigen Finale der Basketball-Liga NBA. Der bestbezahlte eSportler der Welt, der deutsche Kuro Takhasomi holte sich mit Dota 2 bislang über drei Millionen Euro Preisgeld.
Österreich: Größte FIFA-Liga im DACH-Raum
Auch zur (rasant) wachsenden Szene in Österreich hat eSports.at Zahlen parat. So erreichte etwa das weltweit führende eSports-Livestream-Portal Twitch diesen November hierzulande mehr als eine halbe Million Zuseher. Jeder zwanzigste Österreicher nutzt die Plattform. An der österreichischen eBundesliga, bei der (derzeit) FIFA 18 über Xbox One oder Playstation 4 gespielt wird, sind alle zehn Fußballklubs der Real-Life-Bundesliga beteiligt. Sie ist mit rund 6000 Teilnehmern die größte Liga ihrer Art im DACH-Raum. Mit 15.000 Euro Preisgeld ist man natürlich noch in einer anderen Kategorie, als die internationalen Ligen. Die finanziell mit Abstand erfolgreichste österreichische eSports-Mannschaft ist “Plan-B”, die bislang rund 50.000 Euro Preisgeld einspielte.

As engineers, we tend to communicate in technical language. Through the program, we learned to present our idea clearly and understandably.”

Redeem Solar Technologies uses light energy to enable chemical reactions, in order to produce hydrogen in an environmentally friendly way. The startup’s solutions are particularly relevant to the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. Through the aws program, the team not only secured financial support but also made valuable connections in the Austrian startup scene.
Interdisciplinary and International Exchange
One of the most significant benefits of the aws First Incubator’s special international call is the interdisciplinary and international exchange.
