Krypto-Bezahlsystem von Salamantex startet in Handel und Gastronomie
Ausgeben oder hodln? Für viele sind Kryptowährungen ein Asset. Schon bald kann man aber durch das IT-Startup Salamantex aus Niederösterreich z.B. im Einzelhandel und in Restaurants zahlen - zunächst mit Bitcoin, Anfang 2019 aber auch Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash und Co.
Das IT-Startup Salamantex aus dem niederösterreichischen Moosbierbaum bietet einen All-in-one Krypto-Payment-Service für Händler an. Dieses soll KundInnen das Bezahlen mit Kryptowährungen ermöglichen. Ca. ein Jahr hat die Entwicklung gedauert, nun erhalten die ersten HändlerInnen die Bezahlterminals. Neben den Optionen Kryptowährungen kaufen, traden, hodln und in Online-Shops damit zahlen, kann dank Salamantex dann sehr bald auch “im echten Leben” damit zahlen. Die eigens entwickelte Software rechnet dabei die Preise der teilnehmenden Shops in Echtzeit zum aktuellen Bitcoin-Kurs um.
Salamantex entwickelte Crypto Payment Terminal SX1801
Gemeinsam mit einem sechsköpfigen Team begann Salamantex-CEO René Pomassl mit der Softwareentwicklung des Krypto-Bezahlsystems. „Aus eigenem Bedürfnis heraus entstand bereits 2016 unter uns die Idee hier eine Lösung für den Markt zu schaffen.“, so der Geschäftsführer, der sich selbst seit 2012 mit Kryptowährungen und der nötigen Technologie dahinter beschäftigt. Inzwischen zählt das Salamentex-Team über 20 Personen, die Produktpalette ist gewachsen, und mit dem Crypto-Payment-Terminal SX1801 hat das Licht der Welt erblickt. Salamantex selbst verdient hauptsächlich über den Verkauf bzw. die Vermietung der Hardware sowie an Gebühren für die Transaktionen.
Bereits ca. 500 Terminals verkauft
Noch innerhalb diesen Jahres gehen ca. 500 Terminals an die ersten Kunden, 100 davon an österreichische Unternehmen. Mit als erstes dabei ist das mexikanische Restaurant Pancho im zweiten Wiener Gemeindebezirk. Gäste des Restaurants können dort in Zukunft also mit Bitcoin bezahlen. Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum und andere Kryptowährungen werden erst ab Anfang 2019 unterstützt.
Die meisten der teilnehmenden Shops haben ihren Sitz in Oberösterreich, Niederösterreich und Wien. Diese sind vor allem in den Bereichen des Einzel-, KFZ-, und Elektrofachhandels angesiedelt. Für die HändlerInnen fallen Kosten in Form einmaligen Einrichtungsgebühren (ca. 200-500 Euro), Hardwarekosten (575 Euro bei Kauf, oder bei Miete ca. 30 Euro monatlich) und Servicegebühren bei Transaktionen an (0,25 Cent + 1,0 Prozent bis 0,45 Cent + 1,95 Prozent). Eine Liste mit weiteren teilnehmenden Partnern soll im Januar veröffentlicht werden.

The startup’s solutions are particularly relevant to the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. Through the aws program, the team not only secured financial support but also made valuable connections in the Austrian startup scene.
Interdisciplinary and International Exchange
One of the most significant benefits of the aws First Incubator’s special international call is the interdisciplinary and international exchange. This, however, is far worth the effort, as co-founder Ehrlich-Sommer emphasizes: “Being in Vienna helped us get to know the local startup scene and establish valuable connections.”
