Enpulsion: Wiener Neustädter SpaceTech-Startup holt sich 1,2 Mio Euro
Investoren in dieser Finanzierungsrunde sind Alon Shklarek und aws Seedfinancing. Nun will Enpulsion die Serienproduktion seiner Satelliten-Antriebsmodule starten.
Erst vor Kurzem hatte sich das Wiener Neustädter SpaceTech-Startup Enpulsion, das ein neuartiges Satellliten-Antriebsmodul entwickelt, eine 1,2 Millionen Euro Förderung geholt. Das Geld kam vom EU-Programm “Horizon 2020”. Nun konnte das Startup die Summe mit einer Finanzierungsrunde verdoppeln. Der Wiener Investor Alon Shklarek und aws Seedfinancing investierten bei der aktuellen Runde. (Anm. Shrklarek investiert über seine Firma ASP). Bislang hielt Gründer Alexander Reissner fast 90 Prozent der Anteile. Die FOTEC Forschungs- und Technologietransfer der FH Wiener Neustadt war mit sechs Prozent beteiligt.
Konkurrenz soll mit niedrigem Preis geschlagen werden
Mit dem Kapital will Enpulsion nun die Serienproduktion seines Antriebssystems für Kleinsatelliten starten. Das Startup sieht einen enormen Markt und will die Konkurrenz mit verhältnismäßig sehr niedrigen Kosten schlagen – der Brutkasten berichtete bereits. “Klassische Triebwerke mit der gleiche Leistung waren bisher rund sieben bis zehnmal so groß und kosten etwa 600.000 Euro. Unser Antriebssystem, kostet pro Stück 30.000 Euro”, sagt Founder Reissner. Mit dem Kapital könne man nun der wachsenden weltweiten Nachfrage, vor allem aus den USA, nachkommen. Bestellungen von über 100 Triebwerken seien bereits in der Firmenzentrale eingegangen. Dem kommerziellen Launch gingen 15 Jahre Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeit in Kooperation zwischen FOTEC und der Raumfahrtagentur ESA voraus. 2016 gründete Reissner Enpulsion als Spinoff. Unterstützung gab es dabei auch vom Gründerservice Accent, das u.a. Räumlichkeiten zur Verfügung stellte.

Hintergrund: “Einzig funktionierende Technologie”
Technologisch verfolgt Enpulsion einen komplett neuen Ansatz. “Wir haben die einzig funktionierende Technologie in unserem Bereich und das bringt uns großen Zuspruch, sagt Reissner. “Früher haben einzelne, große Satelliten unseren Planeten umkreist. Heute übernehmen sogenannte Satellitenkonstellationen aus 500 bis 600 kleinen Satelliten, die häufig nur so groß sind wie eine Schuhschachtel, die gleichen Jobs. Das sind etwa Wetterprognose oder Mediensignale. Wenn diese Satelliten nun alle auf einem Orbit herumfliegen, dann besteht die Gefahr, dass sie zusammenstoßen. Auch wenn einer nicht mehr funktioniert muss er entfernt werden, sonst fliegen die Trümmer durch die Gegend. Das wird Deorbiting genannt. Und genau hier kommen unsere Triebwerke ins Spiel”.

As engineers, we tend to communicate in technical language. Through the program, we learned to present our idea clearly and understandably.”
Redeem Solar Technologies uses light energy to enable chemical reactions, in order to produce hydrogen in an environmentally friendly way. The startup’s solutions are particularly relevant to the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. Through the aws program, the team not only secured financial support but also made valuable connections in the Austrian startup scene.
