Call: GO HONG KONG 2023 is now open until June 11th

The Global Incubator Network Austria (GIN), in cooperation with AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA, is looking for Austrian mid- or later-stage startups that aim to enter Hong Kong with: GO HONGKONG 2023 from November 8th until 17th, 2023. The call is open until June 11th.

GO HONG KONG 2023 is the ideal preparation for Austrian startups focusing on smart city solutions, Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech or AI/Metaverse to take the next steps of their Hong Kong-expansion. The program supports startups strategically (flexible onboarding, IP coaching, workshops, networking, 1:1 business meetings, etc.) and financially (travel grant of up to 20,000 EUR) to give them the best expierence during a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hong Kong including a breakout session to Shenzhen from November 8th to 17th, 2023.

This Year, the GO HONG KONG program takes place during StartmeupHK Festival – one of the largest startup events in Asia where startups, investors, industry leaders, tech enthusiasts and government officials can exchange ideas, make connections and chart a course for the future.

PART I | GO HONG KONG ONBOARDING: FLEXIBLE

Get first-hand insights into the Hong Kong market and benefit from a flexible digital onboarding to prepare your internationalization strategy. The selected startups will receive 3h of free and individual IP coaching sessions and exclusive unlimited access to our GIN video masterclasses with valuable expert tips for their market entry. At the kick-off event in Vienna on October 10th you will receive first market insights and valuable last-minute preparation tips for your physical presence in Hong Kong, while getting to know the GO HONG KONG startup batch. 

PART II | GO HONG KONG PHYSICAL: EXPANSION TRAVEL

Part II of GO HONG KONG 2023 is a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hongkong from November 8th to 17th, 2023 and offers the selected startups 1:1 business meetings organized by AußenwirtschaftsCenter Hongkong, as well as the opportunity to generate international leads (corporates, potential clients, business partners, etc.) at customized pitch and networking events. In addition, startups can benefit from further on-site activities, e.g. StartmeupHK Festival (see further information below). For the phyiscal trip to Hong Kong with a breakout session to Shenzhen in November 2023, GIN covers 90% of all expenses including flight and accommodation costs up to EUR 20,000.- per startup. 

THE MAIN EVENT OF GO HONG KONG 2023

The StartmeupHK Festival is one of the largest startup events in Asia organized by InvestHK. The week-long extravaganza of startup conferences featuring keynotes with renowned speakers, startup village, services marketplaces, job fair and business matching will be open to attendees across the globe. The core event organisers will bring you the latest industry developments in smart city, retail tech, digital lifestyle, global startup trends and insights from the most promising startups, investors and corporates and many more!

REQUIREMENTS

THE PROGRAM GO HONG KONG 2023 IS MOST SUITABLE FOR STARTUPS MEETING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  • Verticals: Smart City Solutions (AI, PropTech, Transport & Mobility, Energy & Utilities), Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech, AI/Metaverse
  • Austrian mid- or later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed stage)
  • Established in the last 7 years (no k.o. criterion)
  • Raised at least seed-stage investment
  • Unique product/solution 
  • Working prototype/MVP
  • A proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)
  • Interest in connecting to relevant stakeholders (corporates, business partners)
  • Looking to develop further internationally with a focus on the Greater Bay Area/Asia

  2. Fill out the online form and upload your recent pitch-deck

Online Pitch Event | June 23, 2023:

The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are chosen for the Online Pitch via e-mail latest on June 19th, 2023. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-in details for the Online Pitch on the 23rd of June, 2023 as well as a 10-minute time-slot. Each startup has 3 minutes to pitch in English followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international GIN-partners. 

Final Decision – Congratulations! 

After the Online Pitch the jury will select the GO HONG KONG 2023 finalists. The selected startups for GO HONG KONG 2023 will receive an e-mail with the next steps from the GIN-Team latest within a week after the Online Pitch.

Der anhaltende E-Commerce-Boom stellt die Logistik in europäischen Städten vor neue Herausforderungen. In Österreich ist das Paketvolumen allein in den vergangenen fünf Jahren um mehr als 50 Prozent gestiegen. Vor diesem Hintergrund gehen Storebox und die Österreichische Post eine Zusammenarbeit ein.

Storebox: Steigende Anforderungen an Logistikstrukturen

Damit bündeln zwei Unternehmen ihre jeweiligen Stärken entlang der urbanen Logistikkette: Die Österreichische Post gilt als Marktführerin im österreichischen Kurier-, Express- und Paketmarkt (KEP), während Storebox auf ein Netzwerk von mehr als 350 urbanen Standorten in Europa zurückgreifen kann.

Ein höheres Paketvolumen bedeutet auch steigende Anforderungen an bestehende Logistikstrukturen. Gerade in dicht besiedelten Gebieten würden Lösungen wichtiger, die Warenströme effizient bündeln und Logistik näher an ihren tatsächlichen Bedarf bringen können. Storebox hat neben Selfstorage digitalisierte Standorte zunehmend für B2B-Logistikservices genutzt. Micro-Hubs ermöglichen Unternehmen beispielsweise, Waren und Materialien näher am Einsatzort zwischenzulagern. Mit weiteren Services rund um Versand und Paketlogistik möchte Storebox dieses Netzwerk kontinuierlich weiterentwickeln.

„Strukturen müssen mitwachsen“

„Die urbane Logistik steht vor einem grundlegenden Wandel. Wenn das Paketaufkommen innerhalb weniger Jahre um mehr als 50 Prozent steigt, müssen auch die dahinterliegenden Strukturen mitwachsen“, sagt Johannes Braith, CEO und Co-Founder von Storebox. „Mit unserem dezentralen Standortnetz bringen wir Logistikinfrastruktur bereits heute näher an Unternehmen und Menschen. Gemeinsam mit der Österreichischen Post wollen wir darauf aufbauen und neue Möglichkeiten für eine effiziente Logistik in Städten schaffen.“

Die Zusammenarbeit hat für Storebox auch eine besondere historische Komponente. Vor zehn Jahren gewann das damals junge Unternehmen den Hauptpreis beim Pioneers Festival, gesponsert von der Österreichischen Post. Aus der Geschäftsidee entwickelte sich in den darauffolgenden Jahren ein europaweites Netzwerk mit heute mehr als 350 Standorten. Auch im internationalen Versand wird Storebox für die Expansion künftig auf die Post setzen und Mengen nach Deutschland, Slowenien und Kroatien übergeben.

Zehn Jahre danach

„Dass sich unsere Wege nach zehn Jahren auf dieser Ebene wieder kreuzen, ist für uns natürlich besonders“, sagt Braith. „Damals stand am Anfang eine Idee für ein Selfstorage-System. Heute betreiben wir ein europaweites Logistik-Netzwerk und können gemeinsam mit einem der größten Logistikunternehmen des Landes daran arbeiten, wie die nächste Entwicklungsstufe aussehen kann.“

Peter Umundum, Generaldirektor-Stellvertreter, Vorstand für Paket & Logistik, Österreichische Post AG, ergänzt: „Mit Storebox gewinnen wir einen innovativen Kunden, der neue Wege in der urbanen Logistik geht. Die Zusammenarbeit zeigt, wie etablierte Logistikprozesse und neue Infrastrukturangebote einander sinnvoll ergänzen können.“
