Call: GO HONG KONG 2023 is now open until June 11th

The Global Incubator Network Austria (GIN), in cooperation with AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA, is looking for Austrian mid- or later-stage startups that aim to enter Hong Kong with: GO HONGKONG 2023 from November 8th until 17th, 2023. The call is open until June 11th.

PART I | GO HONG KONG ONBOARDING: FLEXIBLE

Get first-hand insights into the Hong Kong market and benefit from a flexible digital onboarding to prepare your internationalization strategy. The selected startups will receive 3h of free and individual IP coaching sessions and exclusive unlimited access to our GIN video masterclasses with valuable expert tips for their market entry. At the kick-off event in Vienna on October 10^th you will receive first market insights and valuable last-minute preparation tips for your physical presence in Hong Kong, while getting to know the GO HONG KONG startup batch.

PART II | GO HONG KONG PHYSICAL: EXPANSION TRAVEL

Part II of GO HONG KONG 2023 is a 2-week ecosystem tour in Hongkong from November 8^th to 17^th, 2023 and offers the selected startups 1:1 business meetings organized by AußenwirtschaftsCenter Hongkong, as well as the opportunity to generate international leads (corporates, potential clients, business partners, etc.) at customized pitch and networking events. In addition, startups can benefit from further on-site activities, e.g. StartmeupHK Festival (see further information below). For the phyiscal trip to Hong Kong with a breakout session to Shenzhen in November 2023, GIN covers 90% of all expenses including flight and accommodation costs up to EUR 20,000.- per startup.

THE MAIN EVENT OF GO HONG KONG 2023

The StartmeupHK Festival is one of the largest startup events in Asia organized by InvestHK. The week-long extravaganza of startup conferences featuring keynotes with renowned speakers, startup village, services marketplaces, job fair and business matching will be open to attendees across the globe. The core event organisers will bring you the latest industry developments in smart city, retail tech, digital lifestyle, global startup trends and insights from the most promising startups, investors and corporates and many more!

THE PROGRAM GO HONG KONG 2023 IS MOST SUITABLE FOR STARTUPS MEETING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Verticals: Smart City Solutions (AI, PropTech, Transport & Mobility, Energy & Utilities), Hospitality & Tourism, FoodTech, HealthTech, AI/Metaverse
Austrian mid- or later-stage startup (beyond PoC and seed stage)
Established in the last 7 years (no k.o. criterion)
Raised at least seed-stage investment
Unique product/solution
Working prototype/MVP
A proven business model with traction (clients, revenue)
Interest in connecting to relevant stakeholders (corporates, business partners)

Online Pitch Event | June 23, 2023:

The GIN-Team informs all applicants whether or not they are chosen for the Online Pitch via e-mail latest on June 19^th, 2023. The pre-selected startups will receive an e-mail with all log-in details for the Online Pitch on the 23^rd of June, 2023 as well as a 10-minute time-slot. Each startup has 3 minutes to pitch in English followed by a short Q&A session by the jury of national an international GIN-partners.

Final Decision – Congratulations!

After the Online Pitch the jury will select the GO HONG KONG 2023 finalists. The selected startups for GO HONG KONG 2023 will receive an e-mail with the next steps from the GIN-Team latest within a week after the Online Pitch.

Im Oktober 2024 verließ das Wiener Startup Aitiologic den „Stealth Mode“. Damals hatte es 2,5 Millionen Euro an Investments und Förderungen eingesammelt. Jetzt folgt eine Seed-Finanzierung über 6,4 Millionen Euro, wie das Unternehmen am Dienstag bekannt gab.

Angeführt wird die Runde von den Healthcare-Investoren Heal Capital und Ananda Impact Ventures. Die bisherigen Investoren Push VC und Lana Ventures sind wieder dabei. Dazu kommen laut Startup mehrere Biotech-Gründer, die bereits Börsengänge und Exits hinter sich haben.

Ein Bluttest, der zeigt, was im Gewebe passiert

Aitiologic entwickelt die Plattform „Aitios“. Sie untersucht zellfreie DNA im Blut und wertet die Daten mit KI aus. Das Ziel: Aus einer normalen Blutprobe soll sich ablesen lassen, aus welchem Gewebe die DNA stammt und was dort gerade passiert. Die Technologie geht auf Forschung von Gründer und CEO Andreas Posch bei Siemens Healthineers zurück. Aitiologic hat sie exklusiv lizenziert.

2024 sprach das Startup noch allgemein von Krebs- und Pränataldiagnostik. Nun ist die erste Anwendung klar: die Risikoabschätzung für Präeklampsie im ersten Schwangerschaftsdrittel. Die Bluthochdruck-Erkrankung betrifft laut Aussendung geschätzt drei bis acht Prozent aller Schwangerschaften. Sie ist eine der wichtigsten Ursachen für Todesfälle von Müttern und Föten weltweit. Aitiologic will dafür dieselbe Blutprobe nutzen, die ohnehin für den nicht-invasiven Pränataltest (NIPT) abgenommen wird. Eine zusätzliche Blutabnahme wäre also nicht nötig.

Eine erste Studie mit Kypros Nicolaides und dem Fetal Medicine Research Institute habe gezeigt, dass sich damit das Präeklampsie-Risiko einschätzen lässt, so das Startup. Jetzt läuft eine größere Studie mit der Fetal Medicine Foundation, an der mehr als 1.000 Schwangere teilnehmen. „Wir sind von einer Technologie-Hypothese zu publizierten klinischen Daten gekommen“, sagt Posch. Das frische Kapital soll in diese Studie und in die Produktentwicklung fließen.

Oxford-Nanopore-Mitgründer im Beirat, neue Chief Medical Officer

Mit der Finanzierung holt Aitiologic zwei bekannte Namen an Bord. Gordon Sanghera hat Oxford Nanopore Technologies mitgegründet, ein britisches Unternehmen für DNA-Sequenzierung. Er führte es 21 Jahre lang als CEO, vom Spinoff der Universität Oxford bis zum Börsengang in London. In der Aussendung wird er als „Pionier der Molekulardiagnostik“ bezeichnet. Für Aitiologic ist das relevant, weil die eigene Plattform auf der Sequenzierung von DNA aus dem Blut aufbaut: Sanghera bringt also Erfahrung mit dem Aufbau, der Finanzierung und der Skalierung genau dieser Art von Technologie mit. Er investiert in die Runde und wird Mitglied des Beirats. Die ersten klinischen Daten von Aitiologic seien „sehr ermutigend“, sagt Sanghera.

Neue Chief Medical Officer ist Rebecca Ertl. Sie ist Fachärztin für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe und hat ein nach eigenen Angaben führendes Zentrum für Pränataldiagnostik in Österreich gegründet. Bei Aitiologic verantwortet sie die medizinische Strategie, zunächst für das Präeklampsie-Programm. Ertl nennt bereits ein mögliches nächstes Thema: Man prüfe, ob der Bluttest auch bei Schwangerschaftsdiabetes früher Hinweise liefern könne.

Neben dem Risikokapital erhält Aitiologic Förderungen von der Österreichischen Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft (FFG), der Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) und der Wirtschaftsagentur Wien. Dazu kommt Unterstützung über den Europäischen Investitionsfonds (EIF) im Rahmen von InvestEU. Zugelassen ist die Plattform noch nicht, sie befindet sich weiterhin in der Entwicklung.
