Fraugster: Berliner FinTech holt sich 5 Mio Dollar von Speedinvest und Co
Das deutsch-israelische FinTech-Startup Fraugster hilft Banken mit künstlicher Intelligenz im Kampf gegen Betrüger. In einer Fünf-Millionen-Dollar-Finanzierungsrunde tritt nun Earlybird neben bestehenden Geldgebern wie Speedinvest als Lead-Investor auf.
15 Milliarden Dollar – dieses Transaktionsvolumen wickelt Fraugster bereits jetzt für seine mehreren tausend internationalen Kunden, darunter Visa, ab. Nun erhält das Berliner Startup, das auch bereits einen Standort in San Francisco hat, einen weiteren Boost. Für eine neue Finanzierungsrunde wurde der in Berlin ansässige Venture Capital-Fonds Earlybird gewonnen. Auch die bestehenden Investoren – neben Speedinvest aus Wien auch Seedcamp aus London und ein Schweizer Privatinvestor – waren bei der Fünf-Millionen-Dollar-Runde dabei.
Das Produkt von Fraugster basiert auf künstlicher Intelligenz. Man habe das Startup gegründet, da die Analyse von Zahlungsrisiken in der gesamten Branche mit veralteten Technologien passiere, sagt Fraugster-Co-Founder und CEO Max Laemmle. “Die derzeit genutzten Systeme sind sehr teuer und zu langsam, um sich in Echtzeit an neue Betrugstechniken anzupassen”, erklärt er. Man habe daher einen selbstlernenden Algorithmus entwickelt, der innerhalb von 15 Millisekunden verlässliche Entscheidungen treffe. Das Startup gibt an, Betrug damit um durchschnittlich 70 Prozent reduzieren zu können.
275 Milliarden Einnahmenentgang wegen falschen Betrugsverdachts
Der Bedarf dafür ist groß: Online-Händler verlieren Schätzungen zufolge jährlich 16 Milliarden Dollar durch Betrug. Noch viel gravierender sind laut Fraugster jedoch die Einnahmen, die den Händlern durch falschen Betrugsverdacht aufgrund veralteter Technologien entgehen. Allein 2015 sei das weltweit ein Volumen von 275 Milliarden Dollar gewesen. Fraugster gibt an, die Umsetzungsrate bei seinen Kunden im Durchschnitt um ganze 35 Prozent steigern zu können.

Mit dem Investment will man nun weitere Mitarbeiter finanzieren und die internationale Expansion vorantreiben. Michael Breidenbrücker von Speedinvest, ist jedenfalls überzeugt, dass sich die neuerliche Investition auszahlt: “Betrugsprävention auf Basis künstlicher Intelligenz wird in den kommenden Jahren im Online-Bereich immer wichtiger werden. Wir sind überzeugt, dass Fraugster hier eine signifikante Rolle spielen wird.” Christian Nagel von Earlybird drückt es etwas pathetischer aus: “Fraugsters Vision einer betrugsfreien Welt ist eine, auf die wir alle hinarbeiten sollten.”
