Heute Abend präsentiert der Verein im Rahmen des 49. “Stammtischs” seinen neuen Code of Conduct. Der Termin ist nicht zufällig gewählt – beim Stammtisch geht es heute um Ethik in der Startup-Welt. So werden etwa die zuletzt viel diskutierte Bro-Culture und die Grenzen des “fake it till you make it”-Ansatzes diskutiert.

Die Idee für einen Verhaltenskodex hätte es bereits länger gegeben, sagt Raunig, “Die Fälle bei Uber und 500 Startups in den USA und die Diskussion zur Bro-Culture in Österreich haben die Umsetzung jetzt beschleunigt.” Bei AustrianStartups wolle man, dass sich jeder in der Community wohlfühlt. Neuankömmlinge sollen sich mit offenen Armen empfangen wissen. “Wenn jetzt jemand, der neu dabei ist, zum Beispiel noch nicht weiß, was der Y Combinator ist, soll er deswegen nicht belächelt und gleich abgetan werden”, sagt Raunig. Generell wolle man gemeinsam daran arbeiten, das die Community noch offener werde – für jeden und jede.

Startups als “pubertierende Jugendliche”
Unethisches Verhalten würde letztendlich der gesamten Community schaden. Etwa auch wenn, wie vor einem Jahr beim (ehemals) Wiener Startup Clozer, ein “fake it till you make it”-Ansatz mit falschen Zahlen und falschen Testimonials verfolgt würde. “Alle Fälle, in denen es so aussieht, als wären Startups pubertierende Jugendliche, sind auch problematisch für all jene, die ernsthaft Business betreiben wollen”, sagt Raunig. Im auf englisch verfassten Code of Conduct liegt ein zusätzlicher Fokus auf dem Thema sexuelle Belästigung, die darin klar definiert wird.
Großer Unterstützerkreis erwartet
Der Kodex ist nahezu ident mit dem weit verbreiteten “Berlin Code of Conduct”, der für Konferenzen entwickelt wurde. Dieser sei sehr gut und passend formuliert und es sei sinnvoll, ihn zu übernehmen, sagt Raunig. Man werde jedoch gemeinsam mit allen Unterstützern an Ökosystem- und Startup-spezifischen Ergänzungen arbeiten. Schon jetzt zum Launch gibt es breiten Support aus dem engeren Partnernetzwerk von AustrianStartups. Auch der Brutkasten unterstützt den Kodex. Nun, nach dem offiziellen Start erwartet sich Raunig noch zahlreiche weitere Unterstützer.
